"Even in Death..." (22 pages), Featuring D'Spayre, Man-Thing.
This is the first issue after fan-favorite John Byrne's record-breaking successful
run, and just prior to the triumphant return of Dave Cockrum. Chris
Claremont stayed at the writer's desk throughout, providing consistency
even among artist turnover turmoil. From what I can discern, this is
also Brent Anderson's first work for Marvel Comics (coinciding with his other
first work that month, Ka-Zar #1, 1981 series). Brent Anderson later went on
to co-create the amazing Astro City. This issue contains some amazing
artwork renditions of Nightcrawler's blend-in-the-dark capabilities.
This issue fills readers in on what's been going on with Cyclops,
founding member of the X-Men, who finally left in issue #138, in the wake
of the death of Jean Grey in issue 137. Interesting characterization of Scott,
who signs on to work on the Arcadia, a fishing boat captained by the attractive
Lee Forrester. The plot involves Lee's doomed father, D'Spayre (the
demon or personification of despair), and the macabre Man-Thing.
